OECD communicators meet together to combat disinformation
Since 2020, the mission of the Public Communication Network - part of the OECD's Open Government Unit - has been to promote citizen-centred public communication as a tool for policy development and open government. The network's 8th meeting was held at the OECD headquarters in Paris on 5 and 6 June 2024. Cap'Com was among those attending.
Government and ministry communicators, alongside the experts present, listened attentively to the results of the OECD's public communication scan of the UK. in particular, the actions leading to greater engagement, improved public trust and better policy outcomes.
“It all depends on how quickly communication is invited to play a part.”
Victoria Stokes
The challenges facing public communication in the UK - as elsewhere in Europe - are considerable: citizen engagement, interference from globalisation, environmental transitions and digital democracy. To meet these challenges, Victoria Stokes, Deputy Director of Skills and Standards at the UK Government Information Service, is clear from the outset, “It all depends on how quickly communication is invited to play a part in the deployment of public policies.”
